Dataram Doubles Servers’ Memory Capacity
August 19, 2008—Dataram today announced the immediate availability of a first-to-market 16GB memory upgrade for Sun Microsystems' Sun Fire X4140, X4240 and X4440 servers. These Sun severs feature AMD's quad-core processor, codenamed "Barcelona".
Each of Dataram's DRSX4440 memory upgrades consists of a matched pair of PC2-5300 DDR2-667 ECC Registered DIMMs. Dataram's unique DRSX4440/16GB, consisting of two 8GB DIMMs, allows customers to double the memory capacity of these systems over what is available from Sun.
The 1U Sun Fire X4140 and 2U X4240 are two socket servers. Both have 16 memory slots for up to 128GB of Dataram memory (64GB with Sun). The X4140 can hold eight SATA hard drives and the X4240 can hold up to sixteen, making them low-cost, high-capacity storage servers.
The 2U Sun Fire X4440 is a four-socket server with 32 memory slots for up to 256GB of Dataram memory (128GB with Sun) and contains up to eight SATA drives.
The systems are available with a choice of operating systems—Solaris, Linux, Windows, and are ideal for virtualization with VMware.
